Biatain®

Biatain® Alginate Ag

Biatain® Alginate Ag

BiatainĀ® Alginate Ag is a highly absorbent silver alginate dressing for moderately to heavily exuding infected wounds of many sizes, shapes and depths.

Product description

Recommended for cavity filling for infected wounds

The design and structural integrity of the dressing allow you to cut the dressing to fit wounds of many sizes, shapes and depths.

Patented wound dressing containing a silver complex with a broad antimicrobial profile

Biatain® Alginate Ag provides continuous antibacterial effect during the entire wear time (up to 7 days) (2).

High dressing integrity

The high dressing integrity allows for one-piece removal with minimal pain and trauma (1).

Minimized risk of leakage and maceration

The absorption of Biatain® Alginate Ag (1) and the gel formation which locks exudate inside the gel prevent leakage that can cause maceration of the periwound skin.

Documented haemostatic effect

Contrary to hydrofiber dressings, Biatain® Alginate Ag has documented haemostatic effect, i.e. ability to arrest blood flow in minor bleedings (4,5).

Mode of action

On contact with wound exudate Biatain® Alginate Ag converts to a soft, cohesive gel that conforms closely to the wound bed for infection control. The silver complex releases ions in the presence of wound exudate.

Product composition

Biatain® Alginate Ag is an alginate dressing consisting of alginate, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and an ionic silver complex.

Usage

Biatain® Alginate Ag can be used on all moderate to heavily exuding partial to full thickness wounds. Biatain® Alginate Ag may be used on infected wounds or wounds at risk of infection. Biatain® Alginate Ag can be used under compression bandages. Biatain® Alginate Ag should not be used on dry or lightly exuding wounds or to control heavy bleeding. Biatain® Alginate Ag is indicated for leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, donor sites, traumatic wounds, and second degree burns.
